Intelligent investigative tools for newsrooms

In March 2016, Governor Rick Snyder testified before Congress about the Flint water crisis. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality had repeatedly dismissed concerns raised by Virginia Tech researcher Marc Edwards and Hurley Medical Center pediatrician Mona Hanna-Attisha. Snyder appointed Darnell Earley as Flint's first Emergency Manager in 2013. Earley later decided to switch the city's water supply from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department to the Flint River while the Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline was under construction. The Environmental Protection Agency, led by regional administrator Susan Hedman, urged Michigan to implement corrosion controls. MDEQ refused, pending further test results.
